Youth Volunteer Team

Northern Colorado Wildlife Center values the contributions of young people and their role in creating positive change in our community. As a youth volunteer, you can develop valuable skills, gain experience, and make a difference in the lives of wild animals. Youth volunteers work in the facility alongside our staff and other volunteers to care for the animals and the facility. Youth volunteers also have the option to volunteer at community engagement events to educate the public on wildlife rehabilitation.

Ages 10-15

  • Volunteers must be accompanied by a guardian at all times.

  • Volunteer shifts are 1 hour at the facility or at a community engagement event per week.

    • Volunteers must be able to commit to once a week for at least a month.

  • Our patients are wild animals; we need it to stay that way! Patients are not to be pet, talked to, or played with by humans. Human interaction with patients is for medically significant purposes only.

    • Volunteers will be restricted on the animals they are allowed to handle. Animal handling is not guaranteed and will only occur on an as-needed basis.

  • Youth Volunteers may be exposed to blood, feces, urine, and zoonotic disease.

  • No previous animal care experience or minimum schooling is required to apply as a Youth Volunteer!

  • We do not accept volunteers who have prior wildlife-related legal violations or convictions.

  • Volunteers will receive a training shift where they learn how to do dishes, sweep and mop the floors, and feed the animals.
