Tiger Salamander

Tiger Salamanders are the only species of salamander found in Colorado. They live in swamp like marshes and eat earthworms, crickets, and other small prey. These salamanders often come into Northern Colorado Wildlife Center’s care because they have fallen into window wells, are attacked by outdoor cats, or have had their hibernation den dug up by construction equipment.

Amphibians Can Breath Through Their Skin

Most species of amphibians have a reduced diaphragm meaning they need to supplement their bodies with oxygen they get through their skin. Their skin needs to be moist for optimal diffusion, which is why rehabilitators must keep their hands wet with clean water when handling amphibians.
